I am participating in a group show at Arte Borgo, Rome in October. The show is based on the text by Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities from which the title of the show is taken.
It is wonderful to show work in Rome to a new audience with a fantastic group of artists who I can’t wait to meet. I am grateful to the artists’ collective ArtCan and to the curator Lesley Bunch for creating this opportunity.

Below is the small painting I will be showing : Every Place I go….3
Also below is the text I selected from Calvino’s work that inspired my piece.

Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities, Chapter 8 Cities and Names 5
‘Irene is the city visible when you lean out from the edge of the plateau at the hour when the lights come on, and in the limpid air, the pink of the settlement can be discerned spread out in the distance below…. if you saw it, standing in its midst, it would be a different city; Irene is a name for a city in the distance, and if you approach, it changes…’

Jane Pryor’s recent work has a lightness of character.  A lightness referred to by Calvino as ‘a lightness of thoughtfulness’ in his essay ‘Lightness’. (Six Memos for the Next Millennium)  Reducing thoughts to the simplest and lightest expression, in recent paintings Pryor arranges abstract shapes and colours on the canvas, unplanned the paintings evolve.  They are expressions of the duality of experience, of lightness and mortality.

Supermarket Art Fair Stockholm was an exciting experience. To exhibit my work in an international art fair with a group of exceptional artists was a real privilege. I was also thrilled that two pieces of work were purchased by a public art collection in Gottenberg. They will be shown in hospitals and health centres in the region. I hope they bring happiness and lightness of heart…

Below are the two that they purchased.
